The European Medicines Agency is inviting any expert to submit scientific data on the Cannabis sativa plant.

In a notice published on January 25, the agency said its Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) is inviting “all interested parties such as pharmaceutical industry associations, health care professional groups, learned societies, consumers and patients’ associations, governmental institutions as well as EU and EEA-EFTA [European Economic Area and European Free Trade Association] Member States to submit selected specific scientific data, which may be used in the assessment of Cannabis sativa L.”

The data are intended to help the European Union “establish the medicinal use” of the plant and create a herbal monograph for it.

The HMPC is accepting contributions via email (hmpc.secretariat@ema.europa.eu) until May 14.

Peer-reviewed publications are preferred but non peer-reviewed data will be taken into consideration if of “adequate” quality.

Further details on what kind of data the HMPC is accepting can be found in its notice.
