State regulators in Colorado have issued a health and safety notice after “potentially unsafe levels” of total yeast and mold were found in a batch of cannabis flower.

In a notice issued on May 18, the Colorado Department of Revenue’s Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) said that the levels of yeast and mold found in the products were “above the acceptable limits” of the state.

The affected products were made by the company Fresh Baked, LLC., and were untested or “not tested properly” around July 14, 2021.

The products should be recognizable by the facility license number 403R-00250, which can be found on the products’ labels.

Any consumer in possession of such a product has been advised by the DOR to destroy it or return it to the initial retailer.

Any consumers who experience adverse health effects from the products have been advised to seek medical attention immediately and report the event to the Marijuana Enforcement Division by submitting a MED Reporting Form.

Total yeast and mold tests are used in cannabis testing labs to detect the presence of molds and fungi. If left untreated, these molds begin to produce chemical mycotoxins that can be particularly harmful to people that are immunocompromised.
